Each day in every community in this country, women are battered and dominated by an intimate partner.  One in every 4 women has experienced domestic abuse in her lifetime. Three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends every day in the U.S. and teen girls are experiencing abuse from their boyfriends at an increasingly alarming rate.  Domestic violence occurs in all socio-economic levels, in all races, and in all religious traditions.  For many reasons the victims are often unable to leave their homes or their abusers. Because of the pervasiveness of this hidden pattern of relating, you will see victims and their abusers in your counseling office.  Will you know how to help them?  This seminar is designed to equip you to respond with knowledge and compassion to those suffering abuse and their abusers.

 

CEU OBJECTIVES AM:

  • Demonstrate an awareness of the realities of Domestic Violence.
  • Understand what Domestic Violence is with an expanded concept of the cycle of violence from the abuser’s perspective.
  • Understand the dynamics of Domestic Violence and its effects on the abused.
  • Explore the common myths about Domestic Violence.
  • Understand the warning signs, tactics and common excuses for violence in relationships.

 

CEU OBJECTIVES PM:

  • Discover the basic goals for helping those affected by Domestic Violence.
  • Learn competent counseling and treatment planning for the abused and the abuser, utilizing the client’s spirituality.
  • Learn the difference between couple’s counseling and counseling victims and perpetrators of Domestic Violence.
  • Discover how to utilize appropriate community services.

 

PRESENTER:

MaryLou Doebele is a Professional Clinical Counselor in private practice with C.J. Hendry & Associates, Inc. in Westlake , Ohio . She co-founded Abigail Ministries , a ministry providing support groups for women of faith as well as education and support for churches and the greater community, dealing with the victims of Domestic Violence. She speaks on the issue of Domestic Violence, both from a clinical perspective and from her personal experience. MaryLou is passionate about helping women and is dedicated to educating professionals, church and community leadership to effectively assist women experiencing abuse.
