Want to get a “Rocky Mountain High” and work in some continuing education on art therapy and trauma-informed practice? Cathy Malchiodi and Elizabeth Warson will be presenting the latest research and approaches to art making, stress reduction and resilience in Fort Collins, Colorado [an hour north from Denver International Airport, one hour from Denver and one hour from Boulder area]. This two-day course presents key art therapy strategies and applications to enhance resilience and reduce stress responses to trauma and loss. Participants will engage in a variety of hands-on experiences using mind-body, mindfulness, wellness and strength-based best practices grounded in emerging research. The essential practices presented in this course can be applied to individuals of all ages, but particular emphasis is on families, groups and communities from a culturally-responsive, trauma-informed approach.


Participants will learn:

1) the five components of trauma-informed practice;

2) at least five art-based methods used in culturally responsive, trauma-informed intervention;

3) at least three reasons why sensory-based, art interventions are essential to reducing the body’s response to stress;

4) at least five aspects that enhance resilience through culturally responsive, trauma informed intervention;

5) at least five ways to apply course material to work with families, groups or communities that have experienced acute trauma, chronic trauma or intergenerational trauma.


This course qualifies for 12 continuing education credits from the National Board of Certified Counselors [NBCC Provider #6557]; a small additional fee is charged for a certificate. Upon completion of this course, attendees are eligible to complete Trauma-Informed Art Therapy Level One by taking one additional continuing education credit online course with the Trauma-Informed Practices and Expressive Arts Therapy Institute in Trauma-Informed Art Therapy or Trauma-Informed Expressive Arts Therapy.
